HollandChess.com Tuition Scholarship Qualifications

In the past, HollandChess.com has functioned largely as a "fun" chess club. We will still retain the "fun" within our program, however, HollandChess.com is now a "Chess School", with legal non-profit status as an Educational Agency. Your child's education, particularly related to chess, is very important to us. As such, if families are in financial distress, we do not want financial difficulties to stand in the way of your child's education. However, we do need to discern between legitimate financial need, and a resistance to pay for a service that at one time was "free" because it was funded by our organization's leadership and the Eagle Crest Charter Academy. Candidates who wish scholarship assistance should meet at least some of the following criteria:

1. Is the student receiving government food assistance at home or at school?
2. Has the student been unable to take part in other community recreation programs due to cost?
3. Does the student show a true interest and commitment to develop their chess playing skills?
4. Is the student's parent(s) currently unable to work full-time due to layoff, down-sizing, sickness, etc.?
5. Is the family in financial stress due to a serious on-going medical concern involving one or more family members?

Please understand that whatever you share with our staff will remain confidential, and no one other than board members will know if your child(ren) has/have received a scholarship. If you believe the criteria listed above qualifies your family for consideration, please let us know. And if so, the next question would be: Do you require full or partial assistance? We will address such details in private. (The staff of HollandChess.com retain the right to assess each application for scholarship on its own merits, and we reserve the right to decline scholarship applications even though the student and/or family may meet one of more of the qualifications previously listed).

Finally, in summary: No one at HollandChess.com receives ANY pay for services rendered, we are ALL volunteers committed to the education of the emerging generation in the art/sport of chess. Those of us on the Board of Directors, who have children in the chess program, also pay full tuition rates. We have set our tuition to be among the very lowest of all Community Recreation programs, though our semesters are longer than most other programs. We set our tuition rates low, so as to enable students from every socio-economic status to participate in the HollandChess.com program. We have made a commitment that no student whose family is truly in need will EVER be turned away from our educational services; however, families who are able to pay our low tuition rates, are extected to support Hollandchess.com through tuition payments (or donations) so that our services may reach as many students as possible. Please contact HollandChess.com leadership to address your financial concerns in confidence.
